The Association of Americans Resident Overseas (AARO) Prague
Founded in Paris in 1973, AARO's main purpose is to secure, protect and improve basic American rights for U.S. citizens overseas. AARO representatives visit Washington annually during Overseas American Week to lobby Congress on issues raised by members. AARO has also been instrumental in the formation of the recently-established Americans Abroad Caucus. The Prague chapter was started in 1992 soon after the Velvet Revolution and the end of communism. We are a not-for-profit, non-partisan, public service group with members active in industry, government service, education, law, the arts as well as retired persons.
AARO Prague members enjoy social and business contacts with all kinds of people from all over the world. We traditionally stage special events such as parties during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons and a popular summer picnic. AARO board members with contacts in the movie industry arrange quarterly or more frequent private screenings of premium motion picture films, usually prior to their public release. All AARO Prague events are at no charge to AARO members, member's guests are frequently welcome, sometimes a minimal contribution to costs is requested.
AARO Membership fees are stable and reasonable. As a service to members, AARO also gives them access to a specially-created and reasonably-priced international health insurance plan, provided by a world-renowned insurer.
